A joint operation conducted by the Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Nijampur and the Department of Fisheries resulted in the seizure of three illegal artisanal trawling boats and the detention of three fishermen in Patuakhali’s Mohipur on Thursday night.
Providing details on Friday afternoon, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon stated that the anti-poaching drive was executed around 11:00 pm on October 29 near the Mohipur Bridge Kheya Ghat area under Mohipur Police Station.
During a thorough search of the seized vessels, law enforcement officers recovered nine banned set bag nets (Behundi nets), six wooden wings, and six trawl doors used for illegal bottom-trawling operations.
Lieutenant Commander Sujon confirmed that primary legal procedures have been taken to transfer the detained fishermen, seized boats, and illegal fishing gear over to relevant authorities for formal prosecution.
Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue to execute synchronized maritime drives to protect marine biodiversity and national fishery resources, the press release added.
