Coast Guard seized smuggled Indian goods worth Tk 4.88 cr in N'ganj

Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a covered van carrying smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk 4.88 crore during a drive in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, officials said on Friday morning.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed that the drive was conducted by Coast Guard Station Pagla on the night of October 7 near the S H S Filling Station area following a tip-off regarding contraband transport.
Upon searching the suspected covered van, Coast Guard personnel recovered 1,297 pieces of smuggled Indian sarees, 273 pieces of Indian blankets, and a large consignment of Indian cosmetics. The vehicle and the illegal merchandise were seized on site, while the driver and helper were later released after signing written undertakings.
The seized goods and the covered van were subsequently handed over to the Siddique Bazar Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate under the Kotwali Division for further legal proceedings.
