Coast Guard seized smuggled Indian goods, banned polythene worth Tk 2.08cr in Keraniganj, Sowari Ghat

In two separate drives, Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel seized smuggled Indian goods and banned polythene alongside raw materials valued at over Tk 2.08 crore from Keraniganj and Sowari Ghat in the capital.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release on Monday morning.
Acting on a secret tip-off, a joint team from Coast Guard Station Pagla and Composite Station Padma intercepted a covered van near the Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza under Keraniganj Police Station around 7:30 AM on Sunday . A search of the vehicle yielded tax-evaded Indian goods valued at approximately Tk 96.45 lakh. As the actual owner of the goods could not be identified on site, the driver and helper were released alongside the vehicle after signing a bond.
In another operation around 6:30 AM the same day, Coast Guard Station Pagla raided two illegal polythene manufacturing factories near Sowari Ghat under Chawkbazar Police Station. Personnel seized 2,635 kilograms of banned polythene and 4,865 kilograms of raw materials worth around Tk 1.12 crore. The factory owners fled the scene prior to the raid, preventing any arrests.
The confiscated polythene and raw materials were handed over to the Narayanganj District Department of Environment for legal action, while legal procedures regarding the seized smuggled Indian goods remain underway, Lieutenant Commander Sujon stated.
