Coast Guard seized illegal Indian artisanal trolling boat, nets in Charfashion

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized an illegal Indian artisanal trolling boat along with 11 trolling nets during a special operation in the Maya River under Charfashion upazila of Bhola.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Coast Guard Media Officer, shared this information in a press release on Saturday noon.
According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Outposts Lalmohan and Charmanika in the Maya River under Dularhat Police Station on Friday night at around 10:00 PM. During the raid, one artisanal trolling boat and 11 trolling nets were intercepted and seized from the area.
Later, local fisheries authorities confirmed through the upazila fisheries officer that the seized vessel belongs to India. Authorities initially suspect that a few unscrupulous Bangladeshi individuals had illegally brought the boat into Bangladesh and were preparing to use it for fishing. Sensing the Coast Guard's presence during the operation, the fishermen aboard the boat managed to flee, leaving no one detained at the scene.
Legal procedures have been taken regarding the seized Indian artisanal trolling boat and trolling nets.
The media officer emphasized that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue its operations in the future to prevent illegal fishing within the country's maritime boundaries and protect vital fisheries resources.
