Responding swiftly to a distress call made to its emergency helpline, the Bangladesh Coast Guard provided medical assistance and emergency evacuation for a critically ill passenger aboard a Dhaka-bound launch near Muktarpur Bridge in Munshiganj district.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
According to official sources, a male passenger traveling from Bhola to Dhaka aboard the passenger vessel "MV Farhan-09" experienced a severe medical emergency as the launch reached the Muktarpur Bridge area around 3:00 am. Observing his rapidly deteriorating condition, a fellow passenger placed a call for immediate intervention to the Coast Guard emergency helpline 16111.
Upon receiving the alert, a specialized medical unit dispatched from Coast Guard Station Pagla intercepted the launch and rendered immediate primary care aboard the vessel.
Following preliminary medical stabilization, Coast Guard personnel transferred the patient aboard a high-speed service boat to the Sadarghat Launch Terminal in the capital. The patient was subsequently transported via a private ambulance under Coast Guard supervision to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka for specialized treatment.
Reaffirming the force's commitment to public welfare and emergency response, Coast Guard officials stated that humanitarian operations and rapid rescue services along national waterways will continue uninterrupted.
