LGED-CReLIC  interim workshop on assessment of best practices in building materials held

Staff Correspondent

An interim workshop on  "Assessment of Best Practices in Building Materials" was hosted by the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Center (CReLIC) under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) at the seminar room of LGED Headquarters on Wednesday.

The event was organized under the ongoing Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming Project (CRIMP) implemented by LGED to evaluate sustainable construction practices for climate-vulnerable regions.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, LGED Chief Engineer Md. Belal Hossain underscored the initiative as timely and essential, emphasizing that adopting locally accessible, eco-friendly, and high-quality building materials remains critical to mitigating climate risks and ensuring structural longevity across local infrastructure networks. He noted that CReLIC's initiative will facilitate the systematic dissemination of standardized material selection guidelines to field-level engineering units nationwide.

Presiding over the session, LGED Additional Chief Engineer and CReLIC Director Salma Shahid highlighted that material durability and environmental compatibility must drive infrastructure planning. She stressed that accounting for regional geographical and ecological variations is imperative when formulating and implementing standardized best practices across all operational levels of LGED.

During the technical sessions, experts from the appointed consulting firm, EQMS Consulting Limited—including Team Leader Prof. Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Senior Materials Specialist Md. Golam Mawla, and Project Coordinator Pratyay Majumder—presented key project findings and methodology through detailed visual presentations.

The workshop was attended by senior engineering leadership, including LGED Additional Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, Senior Assistant Engineers, and Project Directors from various active projects. Key project officials, including CRIMP-CReLIC Project Director Md. Abdul Khaleque and CReLIC Executive Engineer Fatema Ismat Ara, were also present to participate in stakeholder evaluations.
