Coast Guard arrested 15 with 4 lakh meters current net, 250- kg of jatka, 5 trawlers in Chandpur

The Coast Guard has arrested 15 people with 4 lakh meters of current net, 250 kg of jatka and 05 wooden trawlers from the Meghna River in Chandpur.

Lieutenant Commander Md. Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, gave this information on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard is always active in the conservation of fishery resources and the prosperity of the blue economy. In continuation of this, a joint operation was conducted in the Meghna River adjacent to the Sureshwar Launch Ghat in Chandpur by the Bangladesh Coast Guard Dhaka Zone from 1 pm to 11 pm on Monday, January 7, to implement the "Special Combing Operation-2025" to remove illegal nets destroying fishery resources. During the operation, 05 wooden trawlers with 4 lakh meters of current nets and 250 kg of illegal jatka were seized from the said place and 15 people were arrested.

Later, the seized illegal current nets and jatka were handed over to Chandpur Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer Md. Mizanur Rahman and the wooden trawler and the arrested people were later handed over to Chandpur Naval Police Station for legal action.
