The Jamalganj-Selimganj road, which has been a symbol of suffering for years due to its poor condition, is finally progressing at a brisk pace. The start of the road renovation work has brought relief to millions of people in the two upazilas.

For a long time, the movement of passengers and freight was difficult due to potholes, mud and broken roads. During the monsoon, these roads would become almost impassable. Locals would waste hours of time even going to hospitals, markets, schools and colleges.

Under the supervision of the Sunamganj Local Government Engineering Department, carpeting, patch work and drainage system work are currently underway on important parts of the road. The contracting company has already implemented about 50% of the construction work. The contracting company is continuing at a fast pace to complete the remaining work within the next month. The workers are working from morning to evening.

Businessmen, teachers, farmers and ordinary people in Jamalganj and Selimganj are happy with the news of the renovation.

Abdul Haque, a businessman from Jamalganj Bazar, said, "Hundreds of vehicles ply this road every day. Since the road was not in good condition, it used to take a lot of time and money to bring goods. But now that work has started, we are hopeful that we will be able to use this dream road next month."

College student Sumi Akter said, "Whenever it rains, cars get stuck on this road. I had to suffer a lot while going to take exams. Now it seems like the days of suffering will end."

The Jamalganj-Selimganj road is the main means of communication between the haor region of Sunamganj and the district headquarters and neighboring upazilas. Millions of people depend on this road for transporting agricultural products, transporting patients, and for daily commute.

Local representatives have also demanded that the work be completed quickly and with quality. They say that the development of the road will have a positive impact on the economy of the entire area.

Traffic is moving slowly in some places as work is currently underway. However, people say they want a good road even after a few days of hardship.

Nur Alam Milton, proprietor of the contracting company Sarwar Jahan Private Limited, said, "We are working with utmost importance on the ongoing development of Jamalganj-Selimganj road in Sunamganj. Our main goal is to maintain quality standards at every stage of the work." He also said, "Due to continuous rain, there is some problem in working on bitumen on the road. Work has temporarily slowed down due to the weather. However, once the situation normalizes, we will increase the necessary manpower and equipment to complete the work quickly."

"We are working keeping in mind the suffering of the public. We hope to complete this road work very soon and make travel easier for the locals."

In this regard, Jamalganj Upazila Engineer Rajat Kanti Das, who has additional responsibility, said, "We are giving utmost importance to the renovation work of this road of public importance. Our main goal is to make the road suitable for traffic very quickly. We have strict monitoring to ensure the quality of the work. We are regularly supervising at the field level so that there is no deficiency in the quality of the work. We hope that it will be possible to complete the work of this road very soon."

Everyone concerned is hoping that the Jamalganj-Selimganj communication system will gain new momentum once the renovation work is completed.
