Citizenship Project orientation meeting held by SMKK in Betagi

A project orientation meeting for the Citizenship Project was held in Betagi, Barguna, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Upazila Complex Hall.
The event was chaired by Mainuddin, the Betagi Upazila Coordinator for the Citizenship Project, with Betagi Upazila Executive Officer Md. Bashir Gazi attending as the chief guest.
Speeches were delivered by Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Masum Billah, chairmen of the four unions in the upazila, media personnel, civil society representatives, government and non-government officials, and representatives of Seba Manab Kallyan Kendra (SMKK).
The three-year project, supported by the Switzerland Embassy, Canada, and the German consultancy firm GFA, aims to directly benefit 4,800 disadvantaged citizens and indirectly benefit 20,000 citizens across four unions in Betagi Upazila. The initiative focuses on women’s empowerment, access to justice, peace and order awareness, advocacy support, life skills training, climate justice, inclusion of women in government planning, and support for women’s Income-Generating Activities (IGA).
In his speech, Md. Bashir Gazi emphasized that selecting Betagi for SMKK’s Citizenship Program is a timely step. He urged that beneficiaries receive not only counseling and advocacy support but also practical services to become self-reliant. He also stressed the need to activate dormant or semi-active village courts in each union and ensure legal aid services for marginalized communities.
The meeting was attended by 35 members, including upazila-level government officials, media personnel, Union Parishad members, secretaries, and representatives from community social organizations from Mokamia, Buramajumdar, Sarishamuri, and Kazirabad unions
