Call for universal social protection, funding to accelerate SDGs raised at Ctg public meet

Chattogram Bureau
Demand for universal social protection, economic justice, and adequate financing to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was raised at the 'Regional People's Assembly 2026' held at the Caritas office in Chittagong on Sunday.

Jointly organized by SDG Action Alliance Bangladesh, NRDS, and ISDE Bangladesh as part of Global Action Week on SDGs, the gathering highlighted that with four years remaining until the 2030 deadline, organizers estimate only 19 percent of set targets are on track.

Speakers emphasized that major obstacles—such as funding gaps, climate impacts, debt pressures, and inequality—are stalling global and national progress.

To overcome these barriers, participants urged authorities to publish localized, indicator-based progress reports at the district and upazila levels, uphold the core principle of "leaving no one behind," and foster broad public-private partnerships. Chaired by CAB Vice President SM Nazer Hossain and featuring key discussant Abdul Awal, the assembly concluded that leaders must focus on executing existing commitments and building local capacity rather than issuing new promises.
