Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, MP, has urged business leaders to contribute to the country's economic development through business expansion.

The minister made this call while addressing an audience as the chief guest at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected council of the Feni Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) for the 2026–2028 term, held on Saturday.

He stated that increasing the country's wealth is the responsibility of the business community, emphasizing that the contribution of businesses to overall economic progress, including the creation of new employment opportunities, is undeniable.

The minister further remarked that blanket criticism of all businesspeople is entirely unacceptable. Noting that many businesses strictly adhere to rules and regulations, he praised their contributions to national progress.

He asserted that economic growth and wealth accumulation in any country occur exclusively through trade, commerce, and investment. While wealth can be shared or distributed, poverty cannot be distributed in such a manner, he added.

During the event, he delivered directive remarks focusing on environmentally friendly sustainable development, the expansion of regional trade, and overall national economic advancement.

The ceremony was attended by Feni-2 Member of Parliament and Freedom Fighter Professor Joynal Abedin and Reserved Seat Member of Parliament Rehana Akhter as special guests.

Besides, District Commissioner Monira Haque, Superintendent of Police Pratush Kumar Majumdar, District Council Administrator Professor M. A. Khalek, representatives of various business associations, political leaders, and members of the concerned organizations were present among others.
