Brahmanbaria police hosts historic anti-drug rally

An anti-drug rally organized by the Brahmanbaria District Police was held on Tuesday at the Municipal Adarsha Government Primary School ground in Kazipara, continuing until midnight.
Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-3, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce, and BNP's Central Economic Affairs Secretary, attended the event as the chief guest. Brahmanbaria District Council Administrator and District BNP General Secretary Alhaj Sirajul Islam Siraj joined as a special guest, while Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Shah Md. Abdur Rouf presided over the rally.
Addressing the gathering, MP Shyamal emphasized that combating drug abuse requires collective community effort. He called for the formation of ward-level anti-drug committees, heightened social awareness against teenage gangs, and anti-drug campaigns in mosques through imams. He also urged lawyers not to provide legal assistance to drug traffickers, noting that narcotics fuel all major societal crimes, and pledged to propose the establishment of a government drug rehabilitation center in the district.
Superintendent of Police Shah Md. Abdur Rouf urged locals to build a strong social resistance against narcotics and share information on drug spots, users, and traffickers directly with his official mobile number, assuring complete confidentiality. He also highlighted the importance of community and beat policing, warned against online gambling, and reiterated the police force's commitment to maintaining law and order.
Zila Parishad Administrator Alhaj Sirajul Islam announced that residences of identified drug users and dealers would be marked with red signs to raise public awareness and strengthen community action.
The rally also featured remarks from RAB-9 Company Commander Md. Nurnabi, Department of Narcotics Control Deputy Director Sajedul Hasan, District Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Mobarak Hossain, district BNP leaders, representatives from political parties including the NCP journalist association leaders, educators, freedom fighters, and local citizens. The event was moderated by District BNP Joint General Secretary Mainul Islam Chopal.
