Book reading program inaugurated, awards distributed in Barishal

Under the countrywide excellence program of the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (World Literature Centre), a prize distribution festival was held at the playground of Baptist Mission Boys’ High School in Barishal city on Friday morning. 

The event marked the participation of approximately 5,600 students from 47 schools in Barishal metropolis in the 2024 academic year’s book reading initiative, supported by Grameenphone.

Distinguished guests at the colorful prize-giving ceremony included Khandakar Md. Asaduzzaman, retired secretary and former trustee of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro; Md. Sohrab Hossain, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Barishal; Md. Jahangir Hossain, Regional Deputy Director of Secondary and Higher Education; Md. Harunur Rashid, District Education Officer; Gabriel Gain, Head Teacher of Baptist Mission Boys’ High School; Sanuar Hossain, Barishal Division Circle Head of Grameenphone; Shamim Al Mamun, Director of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro; and other dignitaries.

To cultivate refined taste and character among school and college students, Bishwo Shahitto Kendro has been organizing this book reading program nationwide for the past 47 years. In today’s event, 2,411 students from 36 schools received awards directly from the stage. For the remaining 11 schools, awards were collected by teachers and organizers on behalf of the students.

In addition, among 73 top readers from 5 schools, 7 students were selected through a lottery to receive special prizes.
