BCB Director Asif Akbar says : Optimism grows over Shakib Al Hasan’s return, BCB, Ministry working on it

Tawhidul Islam, Cox's Bazar

The legal complexities that arose regarding Shakib Al Hasan’s return to the field to play for the country are now being addressed through joint efforts by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Expressing optimism that Shakib will soon be seen back in domestic cricket, BCB Director and Chairman of the Age-Group Tournament Committee Asif Akbar said that progress is being made at the fastest possible pace.

He made these remarks on Wednesday afternoon while attending the prize-giving ceremony of the Young Tigers Under-18 National Cricket Tournament 2025–2026 at the Cox’s Bazar International Cricket Stadium.

Asif Akbar said that the BCB is actively working on Shakib’s matter. The issue has now moved from the BCB to the Ministry, and the BCB’s legal aid team is continuing to work closely with the Ministry.

Responding to a question from journalists, the BCB director said that there are plans to build an amusement park and star-category hotels at the Cox’s Bazar International Cricket Stadium. In addition, many works, including galleries, are still pending. Regular matches are being held at the Cox’s Bazar Cricket Stadium, but it currently lacks the facilities required to host any major tournament.

At the event, Asif Akbar was accompanied by BCB Game Development Operations Head Kazi Habibul Bashar Sumon and selector Mehrab Hossain Opi.
