The Department of Law and Justice of Bangladesh Army University of Engineering & Technology (BAUET) emerged as the champion of the 1st Interdepartmental English Parliamentary Debate Competition organized by the BAUET Debating Society.

The final round of the competition was held on Sunday at the Panorama Building of the university. In the final, the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) represented the Government side, while the Department of Law and Justice represented the Opposition. Following a lively exchange of arguments, counterarguments, and analytical views, the Department of Law and Justice secured the championship title. Rezoyana Karim Tarin, a student of the Department of Law and Justice and a member of the Opposition team, was adjudged the Best Speaker of the debate.

The motion for the final debate was: “Bangladesh’s transition to a high-income economy is more dependent on research and technological innovation in higher education.” Both teams presented arguments for and against the motion, demonstrating their critical thinking, reasoning, and English communication skills.

Brigadier General S M Lutfor Rahman, Vice Chancellor of BAUET, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he said, “The main purpose of this competition is not merely to earn certificates or crests.

The programme was conducted by Tabassum Nusrat Ikra, a student of the Department of English. Ahmed Yusuf Ayatullah, Adviser of the BAUET Debating Society and Assistant Professor of the Department of English, also addressed the programme. At the end of the competition, the Chief Guest presented crests and certificates to the winners and participants.

Among others, Prof Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Science & Humanities and Faculty of Law; Prof Mohammad Golam Sarwar Bhuyan, Dean of the Faculty of ECE; Major Md. Monjinul Mubin (Retd.), Deputy Registrar (Admin) and Acting Registrar; Heads of Departments; faculty members; officials; and students of the university were present at the event.
