Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) has demanded that the age of entry and retirement in government service should be 35 and 65 years respectively.

The President of the association. Md. Anwar Ullah and General Secretary Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman in a statement on Thursday made this demand.

It said that the age of entry and retirement in government service was raised to 30 and 59 (32 and 60 respectively for Muktijodha quota holders) years respectively. According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data, the average life expectancy of people in Bangladesh has increased to 72.3 years. The retirement age for teachers in public universities is 65 years and for Supreme Court judges is 67 years. Many of the past and present contractual appointees are above 67 years of age.

By reviewing the standards of different countries of the world regarding the age of entry into service, it can be seen that in 162 countries of the world, the age limit for entering government service is 35 years, in some countries it is open again. Also, the retirement age is 65 to 67 years depending on the department and 72 years in some cases. Agitations and demands have been raised on behalf of the job aspirants and employees at various times regarding increasing the age of entry and retirement in government service.

Being oppressed, deprived and discriminated against in the last 15 years of the government, the honest and competent officials were not promoted on time and appointed to appropriate positions, so they were not able to put their true merit and competence in government work.

It is also said, in view of the appropriate description, the BASA is demanding appropriate action from the current government to make the entry and retirement period of government service 35 and 65 years respectively, with the aim of building a reform-oriented, reform-oriented and desired reform-oriented country based on merit-based new generation.
