
Bangladeshi fisherman’s leg severed in mine explosion at ‘Totar Diya’ Border

A Bangladeshi fisherman’s right leg was blown off in a mine explosion while fishing inside Myanmar’s territory at Totar Diya near Hwaikyong border of Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar.The incident occurred at around 1:00 PM on Sunday due to a mine explosion at Totar Diya inside Myanmar.The injured Bangladeshi fisherman is Mohammad Firoz, also known as Firoz Alam (30), son of Md. Ali Ahmad, a resident of Amtali area in Ward No. 2 of Hwaikyong Union, Teknaf Upazila.
This information was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the commander of Ukhiya-64 BGB Battalion.He said that at 1:00 PM on Sunday, in the area under the jurisdiction of Hwaikyong BOP of Ukhiya 64 Battalion, approximately 1.5 kilometers southeast of BRM 18 and about 100 yards inside Myanmar from the zero line at a place called Totar Diya, a Bangladeshi fisherman named Mohammad Firoz, alias Firoz Alam, went fishing and stepped on a buried mine at the border, causing his right leg to be severed in the explosion. Subsequently, with the help of nearby people, he was rescued and brought back into Bangladesh through the BM Post area and sent to Ukhiya’s Kutupalong MSF Hospital for treatment. According to the latest updates, he has been admitted to the hospital, and his treatment is ongoing.
