With the slogan “On the path to a clean Bandarban, we stand together,” a cleanliness drive was organized in Bandarban city under the initiative of the Bangladesh Army, in collaboration with voluntary organizations on Thursday morning.
The official inauguration of the campaign was held in the Meghla Golden Temple area of Bandarban district town, led by Major Miah Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, Deputy Commander of Bandarban Sadar Zone.
Officials and employees of Bandarban Municipality, members of BD Cleaning, Prothom Alo Bondhusabha, and other voluntary organizations, along with representatives of civil society, were present at the event.
Later, members of the voluntary organizations cleaned approximately 1.5 kilometers of road from the Golden Temple to Meghla Tourism Complex. During the drive, they collected litter and garbage from the roadside and transported it to a designated location using municipal vehicles. Additionally, various awareness-raising placards were hung along different points of the road.
While conducting the campaign, volunteers stated that Bandarban is a tourist city. Hundreds of tourists from different parts of the country visit here every day. To ensure that visiting tourists can enjoy a pleasant environment with their families, this initiative was undertaken.
They further emphasized that it is not enough for just a few people to be aware—everyone must take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean. Volunteers also urged tourists to dispose of their waste in designated areas.
