Artificial crisis in supply will not be tolerated: Commerce Adviser
Chattogram City Correspondent
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has warned that any attempt to create an artificial crisis in the supply chain will not be tolerated.
Speaking at a meeting on market conditions, TCB product distribution, and commodity prices at the Chattogram Circuit House Auditorium on Thursday, he emphasized the need to balance demand and supply through increased production. "The market must not remain hostage to a handful of traders. Transparency in transactions is essential, and maintaining purchase and sales receipts at all levels will be mandatory," he stated.
Referring to the growing trend of selling Delivery Orders (DOs) in Khatunganj instead of actual goods, he urged traders to refrain from such practices that destabilize the market.
Divisional Commissioner Md. Tofail Islam noted that over the past two months, 61 stakeholder meetings and more than 400 mobile court operations were conducted in Chattogram, resulting in fines totaling 4.8 million taka.
The event was attended by senior officials from various government departments and members of the media.
