Leaders of the Greater Rajshahi Samity in Dhaka have strongly demanded the appointment of adviser from North Bengal in the interim government to resolve regional disparities.
Greater Rajshahi Samiti, Dhaka President Md. Hafizur Rahman and General Secretary Khondaker Abul Kashem said in a statement that the 16 districts of North Bengal along the Padma-Jamuna are far behind the other regions of the country in economic and social terms.
Although this agricultural region is the main food production area of the country, North Bengal has not been able to come into the mainstream of development due to the development disparities of the ruling class at various times. They said that ensuring proper public representation is essential for the development of North Bengal for the balanced development of the country. The main goal of the July-August student movement was to establish a non-discriminatory state and social system.
Regional disparities have clearly been created since there is no representative of the 40 million people of the 16 districts of North Bengal in the current Advisory Council. The leaders further said that despite the fact that Abu Sayeed, the symbol of the July-August student movement, is from North Bengal, no representative from North Bengal has been included in the Advisory Council.
They have strongly demanded the kind attention of the Honorable Chief Advisor to include the required number of representatives from North Bengal in the Advisory Council of the interim government.
