Anti-cancer HPV vaccination programme inaugurated in Dupchanchia

Cervical cancer prevention awareness and anti-cancer HPV vaccination program has been inaugurated under Dupchanchia upazila in Bogura under the joint initiative of Upazila Administration and Upazila Health Center and in collaboration with UNICEF.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Shamsunnahar presided over the vaccination program opening meeting on Thursday morning in the field of local pilot girls' school while Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jannat Ara Tithi spoke as the chief guest.

Upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Samsunnahar said HPV vaccination campaign has been started from October 24 to November 7, 5th to 9th grade students of all educational institutions of the upazila will be given one dose of HPV vaccination and in the second phase, 144 temporary vaccination centers of 6 unions of the upazila will be given from November 9 to November 23. Adolescents aged 10 to 14 will be given a single dose of HPV vaccine.

About 90% of these deaths occur in developing or underdeveloped countries like Bangladesh. Cervical cancer is the second highest among Bangladeshi women. About 5000 women die of cervical cancer in Bangladesh every year.

Chief guest Jannat Ara Tithi in her speech mentioned the importance of getting HPV vaccine on the causes, symptoms and treatment of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the fourth highest common cancer among women worldwide. Every year, 600,000 women around the world are diagnosed with cervical cancer. Of which about three hundred and forty two thousand people died.
