
Alleged journalist arrested in Pangsha robbery case

Police arrested alleged journalist Iqbal Sheikh (40), the first accused in a robbery case in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari.
He is the son of Taizel Sheikh of Patta village in Patta union and the co-programme and planning affairs secretary of Zia Cyber Force Rajbari district branch. He was also introducing himself as the Pangsha upazila correspondent of an online news portal called 'Mofussal Barta'.
According to the case report, on March 18, Mizanur Rahman of Uttar Biswas Majail village and his companion Abdul Latif were taking money for land registry from the paved road in front of Patta High School. At that time, Iqbal Sheikh, Md. Taher (45), Sohan Biswas (22) and Tariqul Islam (24) snatched 5 lakh taka from them at gunpoint.
When the victims screamed, the kidnappers beat them up and injured them and fired 2 rounds of blank fire before fleeing. On March 20, Mizanur Rahman filed a case with Pangsha Police Station (Case No. 28) as the plaintiff in this incident.
On Thursday (March 20), Pangsha Model Police Station SI Shafiuddin, SI Nazrul Islam, SI Shihabuddin, ASI Paritosh Majumder and ASI Shafiqul Islam along with their forces conducted a raid and arrested Iqbal Sheikh from Patta area.
In this regard, the editor-in-chief of Mofussal Barta said that currently we do not have any representative in Pangsha Upazila of Rajbari district. If anyone has introduced himself, it is fake.
Pangsha Model Police Station OC Mohammad Salauddin said, the arrested Iqbal Sheikh used to introduce himself as a journalist, but in reality he has no journalistic identity. The accused has been sent to court after completing the legal process.
