
One arrested for illegal sand mining in Srimangal

A man has been arrested for illegally mining sand in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. Police seized a truck while it was loading the illegally mined sand.
On Sunday, SI Sujan Kanti Pal of Srimangal Police Station, along with his accompanying force, arrested sand trader Md. Abdus Salam (55) from Tikaria Battal in Ashidron Union of Srimangal Upazila.
The arrested Abdus Salek is the son of Abdus Sattar of Aliabad village in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
According to sources from Srimangal Police Station, a truck with registration number Sirajganj-T-11-0109 and 400 cubic feet of silica sand stored in the truck have been seized for carrying illegally extracted sand.
Officer-in-charge of Srimangal Police Station Md. Aminul Islam said that the natural environment is being destroyed by illegally extracting sand from various government plots and lands. The operation against these criminals is ongoing.
After filing a case against the arrested accused, he was sent to prison by the Moulvibazar District Magistrate's Court.
