Relatives snatched the Legal Affairs Secretary of the Upazila Awami League, Adv Sajjadur Rahman, from the police at Osmaninagar in Sylhet.

The incident took place at around 11:30 pm on Sunday at Sajjadur Rahman's house in Rautkhai village of Usmanpur union of the upazila.

It is learnt that at night, a team led by SI Bishnu Pad Roy of Osmaninagar Police Station searched Sajjadur Rahman's house to arrest the accused named in the complaint and arrested him and wanted to bring him to the police station, but people from the neighborhood, including the woman of the house, gathered and blocked them. At one point, Sajjadur Rahman's people scuffled with the police and snatched him away.

Maulana Dilal Ahmed, the plaintiff in the case, said that the police arrested Sajjadur Rahman from the courtyard of the house while trying to arrest the accused in the attack case on me. At that time, the women of the house chased and snatched it from the police.

Advocate Sajjadur Rahman denied the snatching and said, I live in Sylhet. I heard that some people in plain clothes, including two policemen, went to the house and arrested my brother, thinking he was me. At that time, when he said it was not Sajjad, the police let him go.

SI Bishnu Pad Roy of Osmaninagar Police Station said, "We went to Rautkhai village to arrest the accused in a criminal case and arrested a person named Sajjadur Rahman, when people including his wife attacked us and snatched him away."

It is mentioned that 9 people were injured in a clash between two parties over the distribution of Shirni on the night of Shab-e-Barat in Osmaninagar. The incident took place at around 9:30 pm on Friday at Rautkhai Paschimpara Jame Mosque in Usmanpur Union of the upazila. After the incident, the injured Maulana Dilal Ahmed filed a case with Osmaninagar Police Station as the plaintiff. It is known that there has been a long-standing dispute between the people of Sylhet District Awami League leader Adv Sajjadur Rahman and Maulana Dilal Ahmed.
