Akhaura-Agartala Railline inauguration on Nov 1, final trial completed

The final trial run of the train was done on the Akhaura-Agartala Dual Gauge Railway in Brahmanbaria at 12:20 pm on Monday. The train left from Nischintpur of india to Akhaura railway station of Bangladesh, with an empty carriage.

Customs activities started at Gangasagar railway station on this occasion. 7 persons including train director, assistant director, driver completed their formalities there and took the train to Nishchinpur in India and returned.

Akhaura-Agartala Railway Project Director Md. Abu Zafar Mia said that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and India will officially inaugurate on November1.

Initially cargo trains and later passenger trains will ply between the two countries.

The project officials said that the construction of the 12.24 km Akhaura-Agartala railway from Gangasagar in Akhaura to Nishchintpur in Agartala started in July 2018. Of this, the Bangladesh portion is 6.78 km. It is taking more than five years to complete the one and a half year project due to various crises including the Corona epidemic. Although the railway line is completed, the finishing works of the immigration, customs building and platforms remain incomplete.
