
Administration takes strict stand to protect mother Hilsa in Char Fassion, 18 ice mills sealed

The administration and law enforcement agencies in Char Fashion, Bhola are working together to protect mother Hilsa during the main breeding season of Hilsa.
As per the government's instructions, all types of fishing, conservation, transportation and marketing have been banned in the coastal sea areas including the Meghna and Tetulia rivers for 22 consecutive days from midnight on October 3 to October 25.
Char Fassion Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Emdadul Hossain and Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Jayanta Kumar Apu conducted a day-long campaign on Saturday to implement the ban. Members of the Bangladesh Navy and police participated in the campaign.
During the campaign, 18 ice mills were sealed in the Betua, Notun Sluice Gate, Samraj, Mainuddin Ghat, Khezurgachhia, Panchkapat and Atkpat fisheries ghat areas of the upazila and their electricity connections were disconnected.
Char Fashion Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Jayanta Kumar Apu said, “We are conducting a strict campaign in coordination with the upazila administration, navy and police to successfully implement this 22-day ban from October 4 to October 25 to protect the mother Hilsa. No unscrupulous fisherman or trawler owner will be allowed to enter the river.”
He also said that regular patrols and campaigns will continue during the ban, so that the mother Hilsa can safely lay eggs and the production of the next generation increases.
