Abdul Karim MP sworn in as Gaibandha District Jamaat Ameer

Mohammad Abdul Karim MP has been sworn in as the newly elected Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Gaibandha district unit for the 2027–2028 term.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at 9:00 am on Friday at the district Jamaat office in Gaibandha as part of a meeting of party officials and organisational leaders.
Maulana Abdul Halim, Assistant Secretary-General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, attended the programme as the chief guest and administered the oath. Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal MP, a member of the party’s Central Executive Council, and Dr Abdur Rahim Sarkar, former Ameer of Gaibandha district, attended as special guests.
Maulana Abdul Halim said three long marches had been successfully organised in support of the party’s seven-point demands. He said the programmes had conveyed a message to the people that the 11-party alliance, particularly Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, remained active and vocal in raising public concerns.
Commenting on unrest in the garment sector and the death of a garment worker named Tawfiq during the ongoing violence, Maulana Halim strongly condemned the incident and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
He said workers' legitimate demands must be addressed and their ongoing movement resolved through peaceful means. He also demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of those responsible for Tawfiq's killing.
Addressing party activists, he urged them to exercise patience, restraint and caution amid what he described as attempts to mislead members of the religious scholars' community.
Other speakers included District Naib Ameer and freedom fighter Md Abdul Waresh MP, District Naib Ameer Professor Md Majedur Rahman MP, Principal Maulana Nazrul Islam MP, Acting District Secretary Syed Rokonuzzaman, Assistant District Secretary Md Faisal Kabir Rana, and Gaibandha district Islami Chhatra Shibir President Yusuf Al Qarawi..
Members of the district and upazila-level Shura and executive councils, along with upazila Ameers and secretaries, also attended the meeting.
