7-yr old girl gang-raped by two drug-addicted teens in Tahirpur

Sarwar Jahan, Tahirpur (Sunamganj)

A horrific incident has emerged from a border village in Tahirpur Upazila under Sunamganj district, where a seven-year-old girl from an underprivileged family was allegedly gang-raped by two Yaba-addicted teenage boys.

Shockingly, the mother of one of the accused teenagers and a local village doctor reportedly barred the traumatized family from seeking official medical treatment at a government hospital or filing a police report.

After the child's physical condition deteriorated severely on Saturday due to continuous hemorrhaging, local residents intervened to rescue the victim from Kolagaon border village and rushed her to the Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex and the local police station for immediate treatment and legal assistance.

The details of the harrowing assault were confirmed on Saturday afternoon by the victim's family, alongside local social workers Morshed Alam Saddam and Khurshid Alam.

According to the victim's grandmother and maternal uncle, the incident occurred on Thursday evening in the West Para area of Kolagaon village. Taking advantage of an empty house, two notorious local teenagers, identified under the pseudonyms Majnu and Kamal, abducted the seven-year-old child. They reportedly locked her inside a neighbor's toilet and took turns raping her before leaving her at the site.

When the child managed to return home, she narrated the horrific ordeal to her family and neighbors. As the child suffered from continuous internal bleeding, the mother of one of the rapists reportedly forced the family to stay away from government hospitals. Instead, on Friday evening, she escorted them to a local market pharmacy operated by a village quack doctor, Bashir Ahmad (also known as Buruj), to procure temporary bleeding-control medication.

Upon learning about the gang rape, the village doctor allegedly pressured the victim's family not to report the crime to the police, claiming it would destroy their societal reputation. He actively coerced them into accepting a local village arbitration (Salish) instead. Local residents and family members confirmed that both the suspect's mother and Doctor Bashir Ahmad deployed intense psychological pressure to shield the drug-addicted perpetrators from facing statutory criminal charges.

When contacted on Saturday evening regarding his role in masking the crime, the accused village doctor, Bashir Ahmad, admitted to treating the child. "I only provided basic medication to stop the bleeding. I have no official knowledge of a gang rape, and I never barred the victim's family from seeking legal assistance at the police station," Bashir claimed.

Aminul Islam, the OC of Tahirpur Police Station, confirmed that the child is currently under protective police custody. "The victim has been brought to the station.

A comprehensive investigation into the gang rape is fully active, and rigorous legal procedures against all involved parties are currently underway," the OC stated on Saturday evening.
