Due to heavy rainfall, the water level in Cox's Bazar tourist town has started receding from most of the areas. However, due to the effect of low pressure and heavy rainfall, the sea is rough. In this situation, 6 fishing trawlers have sunk on the coast of Cox's Bazar due to stormy winds. The bodies of two persons have been recovered so far in this incident.
Five people are missing. Delwar Hossain, Secretary of Fishing Trawler Owners Association, said that one FB Rashida and 5 fishing trawlers drowned at Inani Point on Friday in Labani Channel on the sea coast. The sailors in the trawler managed to get to the bottom, but 5 fishermen are missing.
Apart from this, bodies of two fisherman named Mohammad Jamal (37) and Nurul Amin have been recovered. Deceased Jamal's house is Charamba in Lohagara upazila and Nurul Amin's house is in Banshkhali area.
He said that 30 to 35 fishing trawlers could not be found due to adverse weather due to low pressure in the sea. Due to continuous rains, water has receded from most areas of Cox's Bazar city. However, the lower areas of Ramu, Ukhia, Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district are flooded. As the Bankkhali and Matamuhuri rivers flow close to the floodplain, if the heavy rains continue, the towns and villages may see floods.
Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist of Cox's Bazar Meteorological Office, said that warning signal number three is in force in the sea. 262 mm of rain was recorded in Cox's Bazar from 9 am yesterday to 9 am on Saturday.
