4-day Shadow UN Conference begins at DU

The 4-day Shadow United Nations Conference, organized by Dhaka University Model United Nations Association, has begun on Wednesday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The theme of this year's conference is 'Consolidating effective multilateralism by maintaining unity in diversity in a changing global context.'
Prof Mohammad Ainul Islam, Moderator of Dhaka University Model United Nations Association, Dr. Susan Vize , Head and Resident Representative of UNESCO in Bangladesh, and Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC Bangladesh, spoke as special guests at the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said, "We need to create areas for cooperation not by eliminating differences but by acknowledging them. In the current context of division and weakness of multilateral institutions in the world, establishing unity in diversity is very important."
He said that events like Model United Nations play an important role in developing students' skills in debate, leadership, diplomacy, and responsible decision-making.
Referring to the July mass uprising at Dhaka University, the Vice Chancellor said that the practice of Model United Nations has an important link with the desire of young people to organize, present their positions through logic, and establish accountability.
