
4 arrested while smuggling Indian cigarettes

Joint forces arrested four people while smuggling 31 cartons of Indian cigarettes worth Tk 3.6 million.
A team of security forces seized these cigarettes from a house in Betchhari Guchchagram area of Kaukhali upazila of Rangamati on Thursday morning. At that time, three people and the owner of the house were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the incident.
Those arrested are: Senior Vice President of Kaukhali Upazila Krishak Dal Md. Ismail (38), Joint Secretary of Upazila Tanti Dal Md. Ripon (35), Expelled Organizing Secretary of Kaukhali Upazila Jubo Dal Selim Mahmud (40), and the owner of the house Md. Shamsuddin.
Kaukhali Police Station OC Saiful Islam Sohag said, Oris and Mand cigarettes worth Tk 36,65,000 have been seized. Four people, including the owner of the house, have been arrested in this incident. The case process against the arrested people is ongoing. All those involved in this will be brought to justice.
Abdul Motaleb Member, General Secretary of Kaukhali Upazila BNP, said, "The arrested Selim, Ismail and Ripon were expelled from the party long ago for being involved in various misdeeds.
