A press conference was held by the Anti-Fascism Platform of Barishal University (BU) students accusing BU Vice-Chancellor Prof  Dr. Sucharita Sharmin of 20 serious and specific allegations including the rehabilitation of fascism.

 During the press conference, they issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding that the Vice-Chancellor accept their previously announced four-point demands including a public apology.

The press conference was held on Thursday  at 1 PM on the ground floor of the university. During the conference, 20 specific and serious allegations were brought forward against the Vice-Chancellor.

Based on allegations, they reiterated their previously announced four-point demands including  the VC  must apologize for the rehabilitation of fascism and all controversial activities ; flse allegations against Dr. Mohsin Uddin, professor of the English department, must be withdrawn and he must be reinstated to the Syndicate and Academic Council ; registrar Monirul Islam, who holds a position in the Awami League, must be removed immediately and  tachers and staff who support fascism and autocracy must be removed.

They gave a 48-hour ultimatum for these demands to be met. Failing to do so, they warned of tougher programs ahead.

During the press conference, spokesperson of the Anti-Fascism Platform Rakin Khan said, “After the July Revolution, we wanted to see a different image of this university. We wanted an institution free from autocracy, where there would be a healthy environment for education, and student welfare would be ensured. But instead of fulfilling our aspirations, Barisal University is moving in the opposite direction. One reckless decision after another has been taken against students. Barisal University has become a sanctuary for the allies of autocracy.”
