Strict enforcement of laws, public awareness vital to stopp polythene use: State Minister Faridul Islam

State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, MP, has emphasized the importance of raising public awareness and strictly enforcing relevant laws to halt the use of banned polythene in order to prevent environmental pollution.
The State Minister made these remarks on Monday while participating in an anti-polythene awareness campaign during an inspection of the Mohammadpur Krishi Market in Dhaka.
During the visit, he interacted with market traders, buyers, and ordinary citizens, urging them to use eco-friendly bags instead of polythene.
Highlighting that banned polythene is severely harmful to soil, water, air, and biodiversity, the State Minister noted that it is also a primary cause of urban waterlogging.
During the inspection, he distributed eco-friendly shopping bags among buyers and sellers. Senior officials from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department of Environment were present during the event.
