Sexual harassment, bullying, ragging : Two committees working on prevention at DU

In light of the decision of the Dhaka University Syndicate, two separate committees are working on preventing sexual harassment and assault on the campus and preventing bullying and ragging.

The 'Investigation Committee for Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Assault' has been formed with Prof Dr. Upma Kabir, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, as the convener, and the 'Anti-Bullying and Ragging Committee' has been formed with Professor Dr. Shahnaz Huda, Professor of the Law Department, as the convener.
A letter has already been sent from the office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) to all the Deans of all faculties, Principals of Halls, Wardens of Hostels, Chairmen of all Departments, Directors of Institutes and Proctors to regularly inform the conveners of the concerned committees about all the complaints related to sexual harassment and oppression, bullying and ragging. The letter has directed to install complaint boxes in all faculties, departments, institutes, halls, hostels and proctors' offices and send the complaints received on a weekly basis to the conveners of the concerned committees.
In addition, it has been suggested to organize workshops on sexual harassment and abuse, bullying and ragging in every department and institute with teachers and students.
