
Manuscript workshop begins at DU

A three-day-long workshop and seminar on manuscripts has begun on Monday at the initiative of the Dhaka University Library. Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, inaugurated the workshop and seminar as the chief guest at the library's E-Zone.The seminar was presided over by the Acting Librarian of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Haque. Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, was present as a special guest at the seminar.At the seminar, a keynote paper titled "Manuscripts Preserved in the Central Library of Dhaka University: Editing and Publication" was presented by Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar of the Department of Persian Language and Literature.Deputy Librarian Sadia Afrin delivered the welcome speech at the event.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan emphasized the importance of proper preservation of manuscripts, saying that the history of human civilization has to be collected from manuscripts. Civilization has developed based on manuscripts, so it is necessary to raise awareness among students regarding this matter.
Emphasizing the importance of deciphering manuscripts, he said that the knowledge must be made comprehensible to the general public and spread everywhere.
He also stressed that the knowledge contained in various rare manuscripts preserved in Dhaka University Library should be exchanged with various universities at home and abroad.
