Fire at RMCH, 6 hours of darkness!

Rangpur Bureau

The administrative building of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) remained without power for six hours following a sudden fire triggered by an electrical short-circuit.

According to sources at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, the fire broke out at 6:00 AM on  Thursday, originating from a switchboard located near the administrative wing. A nurse on duty spotted the flames and alerted the Fire Service, who arrived promptly and brought the fire under control.

Power supply to the hospital was restored after an outage of approximately six hours, allowing routine healthcare services to resume. However, operations within the administrative wing remain suspended. The power disruption caused significant hardship for patients seeking various forms of medical care.

Hospital authorities stated that there was no major damage; the incident was caused by a short-circuit that resulted in the burning of a circuit breaker and wiring in the switchboard near the administrative wing. The outbreak of the fire caused panic among patients and their relatives, leading to a chaotic scene. Power was eventually restored by 12:00 PM. Kaniz Sabiha, the hospital’s Assistant Director (Administration), confirmed the incident.
