In a tragic incident, three people, including a grandmother and her grandchildren, drowned in the river in the West Vashanchhar area of Ambikapur Union, Faridpur Sadar Upazila. 

The body of the missing child, Syad (7), was recovered by local residents from the Kumar River at around 8 a.m. on Friday, nearly 20 hours after the incident.

Earlier, on Thursday (Sept 25), at around 7 p.m., the Fire Service, with the help of locals, recovered the bodies of two victims. On Thursday afternoon, two children, Tasif Mollah (8) and Syad Mollah (7), drowned while taking a bath in the Kumar River in Vashanchhar village. In an attempt to rescue the children, their grandmother, Malka Begum (68), also went missing.

According to local sources, as on every day, on Thursday afternoon, Malka Begum, along with her two grandchildren, went to bathe in the Kumar River near their house in Vashanchhar. Soon, both children, Tasif and Syad, were swept away by the current. While searching for them, their grandmother Malka Begum also went missing. The locals alerted the Fire Service and the police, and the Fire Service team started the rescue operation. By around 5 p.m., with the help of the locals, the bodies of Malka Begum and Tasif Mollah were recovered. Despite continuous efforts until 7 p.m., the Fire Service was unable to find Syad.

Finally, on Friday morning, at around 8 a.m., Syad's body was found by local residents in the Kumar River.

This tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire area.

Faridpur Fire Service Station Leader Mahammad Nisar Ali said, "We were informed around 5 p.m. about two individuals drowning in the river. By 6 p.m., their bodies were recovered. At that time, we were also told that another child was missing. After a brief search of the river, we had to suspend our operation due to darkness. The search resumed the next morning, and the child’s body was found."
