Expatriate youth murder case: Accused arrested in Munshiganj

Munshiganj (South) Correspondent

RAB has arrested one of the main accused, Md. Shahadat Bepari, in connection with the brutal murder of a returning expatriate youth in Munshiganj. He is a resident of Dewankandi village in Sadar upazila. Shahadat was apprehended by RAB-11 on Friday  evening from the Zirani Bazar area under Ashulia Police Station in Dhaka.

According to RAB, the deceased, Shyamal, was the son of late Abdul Gani Bepari from Purbarakhi village of Shiloi Union under Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. He had returned to Bangladesh six months prior after spending several years in Malaysia. On the night of June 13, 2023, around 2 AM, while Shyamal was sleeping alone in his house, several individuals from the same village—including Shahadat Bepari, Ibrahim Bepari, his nephew Habib, and Mohiuddin Bepari—attacked him. They indiscriminately hacked him with sharp weapons and fired several rounds of bullets, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued Shyamal and rushed him to Munshiganj General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Following the incident, the victim's brother filed a murder case at the Sadar police station (Case No. 28(6)23). Shahadat had been on the run since then, until his arrest by RAB.

RAB reported that Shahadat has multiple cases filed against him in various police stations of Munshiganj, including for murder and attempted murder. He has since been handed over to the Sadar police station for further legal action.

OC  of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, Saiful Alam, stated that Shahadat Bepari has been transferred to the custody of the Sadar police station and will be produced in court later.
