
Fisheries Addviser inaugurates Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute annual research progress review, plan formulation workshop

The regional workshop titled Annual Research Progress (2024-25) Review and Research Plan
(2025-26) Formulation was held at BFRI Auditorium at 10 am on Saturday organized by
Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Fresh Water Center, Mymensingh.
At the event, Anuradha Bhadra, Director General of Fisheries Research Institute, Mymensingh, presided over the inauguration and speech of the workshop as the chief guest. Farida Akhter, Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, said in her speech that fisheries scientists should invent new varieties of fish and spread them among the farmers of our country.
So that our meat does not suffer. She also said that all the pesticides used in agricultural lands are very harmful to fish. He called on researchers to work on this issue and ordered to take legal action against all the institutions that produce food from tannery waste for fish feed and market it.
Special guests of the event were Nripendranath Biswas, Director of the Department of Fisheries, Mymensingh Division, and Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sarkar, Dean of the Daculty of Fisheries Science, Bangladesh Agricultural University. At the beginning of the event, BFRI CSO Dr. Harun Or Rashid delivered a welcome speech. Fisheries scientists, ifficers, employees and farmers of the district participated in the workshop.
At the closing ceremony, Anuradha Bhadra, Director General of Fisheries Research Institute, Mymensingh, said that the light of hope is that the Fisheries Research Institute has brought back the lives of 41 extinct fish species through research. The event was moderated by BFRI Scientific Officer Farzana Jannat Ankhi.
