Don't bring dirty politics into university premises: Prof CR Abrar

Noakhali Correspondent

Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, said, "Don't bring dirty politics into the university premises." He said, "I may have political beliefs. But that political belief will remain at the level of faith. I will not bring that politics into the university premises. I will fulfill my responsibility towards all the students there."

He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the 19th University Day celebration, Research Fair and Academic Excellence Award ceremony of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NOUST) at the Muhammad Ruhul Amin Auditorium on Monday afternoon. The ceremony was presided over by the university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr. Muhammad Ismail.

Advisor Abrar addressed the teachers, "If anyone thinks that I will do politics. Of course, you should go into the arena of politics. You should leave teaching at the university. Because politics needs good and qualified people. You will get respect there too. But you should not bring dirty politics into the university premises. This is our call. I firmly believe that in the coming days, when the political government comes, they will take these issues into consideration."

Referring to his teaching career, he said, "I have been teaching with dedication for 40 years. I have never cheated on knowledge. I have always tried to be an ethical teacher, I have not always succeeded, but I have. But whenever I see my friends sitting in the teachers' lounge. They are supposed to take 30-40 classes. Out of them, they take 4-5 classes. Later, they do not take the rest of the classes. When the student representative comes and says that Madam or Sir, you have a class. Then he says, 'Sit down, I am coming.' After talking for another 10-15 minutes, he left. He returned 15 minutes before the end of the class. We have also seen this kind of thing."

He said, "The teacher reassignment in universities. There was no teacher reassignment there. There was voter reassignment there. I want to believe that we want to overcome this kind of reality. So I have to reorganize everything in a new way. If we expect our students to attend classes regularly, if we expect them to study attentively, I have to create that environment. Then of course, the moral values of our teachers have to be upheld. I have to fulfill my responsibility as a teacher."

UGC Member Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Mohammad Rezwanul Haque and Treasurer Prof Dr. Mohammad Hanif, District Administrator Khandaker Ishtiaq Ahmed, District Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruk, along with deans of various faculties, directors of the institute, chairmen of departments, provosts of halls, teachers-students and officials-employees were present.

It is mentioned that at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ismail, gratefully remembered those who contributed to the approval and establishment of this university. For the first time, a research fair was inaugurated at Nobiprobi to celebrate the University Day and various academic excellence awards including Research Award, Dean's Award and Vice-Chancellor's Award were presented. In the afternoon, research presentations of various faculties and a last, enjoyable cultural program were held.
