A memorial service for Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali was held at the RC Majumder Arts Auditorium t on Wednesday, at the initiative of the Department of World Religions and Cultures, Dhaka University.
Bangladesh Open University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Founding Chairman of the Department of World Religions and Cultures of Dhaka University Prof Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam, Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) Dr. M Abdul Aziz, Chairman of the Department of Physics of Dhaka University Prof Dr. Aminul Islam Talukder, Prof of the Department of Philosophy Dr. Shah Kawsar Mustafa Abululai, Professor of the Department of History Dr. Milton Kumar Deb, Chairman of the Department of World Religions and Cultures Professor Dr. Md. Abu Sayem and Professor Md. Ilias, Rabia Nazreen of Quantum Foundation, and the late's granddaughter Faria, among others, participated in the discussion.
At the memorial meeting, the speakers discussed various aspects of the colorful career of the late Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali. This renowned physicist and Islamic scholar was associated with the Department of World Religions and Cultures until his death. As an honorary professor of the department, he was teaching the M. A 2nd semester “Science and Religion” course. With his inspiration and enthusiasm, Professor Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam established the Department of World Religions and Cultures in 1999.
At the end of the discussion meeting, prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the soul.
