BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Advocate Fazlur Rahman has warned that the country will plunge into darkness if a national election is not held by December of this year.

Addressing an interim government, he said, “The election must be held within December, and power must be handed over to the party winning the majority. Otherwise, the country will descend into darkness.”

He made the remarks on Thursday (April 24) while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting between the central leadership and the district unit of the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum held at the Kishoreganj Bar Library auditorium.

Expressing regret, he said, “A young man who is now 30 years old has yet to cast his vote in a free and fair election. Therefore, voting rights and democracy must be ensured within December.”

Adv. Rahman further stated that the country currently lacks the necessary level of rule of law and judicial independence. “Year after year, people have been deprived of their right to vote and their human rights. In desperation, they brought Nobel Laureate Yunus to power, hoping he would restore democracy, establish an elected government, and lead Bangladesh forward.”

He alleged that in the absence of an elected government, there is no rule of law in the country, which has allowed land grabbing, money laundering, and looting to persist unchecked.

The meeting was presided over by Advocate Jalal Uddin, President of the Kishoreganj District Lawyers’ Forum and Public Prosecutor (PP). Other speakers included Advocate Md. Shahiduzzaman, Joint Secretary of the Central Lawyers’ Forum; Advocate Anjuman Ara Begum Munni, Assistant General Secretary; Advocate Ashikuzzaman Nazrul, Assistant Secretary for Education Affairs; and Advocate Md. Omar Faruk, Assistant Secretary for Training Affairs, among others.

Members of the district committee of the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum were also present at the event.
