Coast Guard seized 350 kg venison in Patharghata, illegal meat trader detained

 Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel detained an illegal meat trader and recovered 350 kilograms of venison alongside three deer hides and a head during an early morning drive in Patharghata Upazila of Barguna.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the matter on Friday afternoon, stating that a team from Coast Guard Station Patharghata carried out the raid at Kaliyar Khal in South Charduani area around 2:00 am on Thursday, September 10, based on confidential intelligence.

During the search of a suspicious wooden boat, law enforces seized the poached venison, hides, and head valued at approximately Tk 4.24 lakh, and confiscated the vessel used in the illegal trade. One individual involved in the operation was taken into custody on site.

The detained suspect, seized meat, hides, and the boat were subsequently handed over to the Patharghata Upazila Forest Department for necessary legal proceedings. 

Coast Guard authorities emphasized that rigorous operations to curb wildlife poaching, illegal logging, and trafficking in coastal and forest border zones will remain ongoing.
