"We all need to work together to protect future generations from social ills like drugs, terrorism, extortion, online gambling, child marriage and suicide. Building a good society is our responsibility." — This is how Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Shama Obaid Islam, MP, called for increasing peace, harmony and awareness in the society.

She made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a 'Social Awareness Exchange Meeting' organized by the District Police, Faridpur at the Bhabukdia Government Primary School grounds in Dangi Union, Nagarkanda Upazila, Faridpur on Saturday at 4 pm.

At the meeting, she said that it is not possible for law enforcement agencies alone to eradicate crime, drugs and violence from society. In this regard, guardians, teachers, public representatives, political leaders and conscious citizens must collectively fulfill their responsibilities. He also called for peaceful settlement of local disputes and land-related conflicts through negotiations.

Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Mahjarul Islam, Superintendent of Police Shahriar Mohammad Miyazi and Nagarkanda Upazila Executive Officer Rezwana Afrin were present as special guests. The meeting was presided over by Nagarkanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Russell Samadani Azad.

Present at the event were former Nagarkanda Upazila BNP President Habibur Rahman Babul Talukder, Upazila BNP Vice-President Mahabub Ali Mia, former Upazila BNP General Secretary Saifur Rahman Mukul, Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Tara Molla, Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Shawkat Ali Sharif and Upazila JASAS Convener Lulu Chokder, along with leaders of various political, social and cultural organizations.

At the exchange of views, speakers emphasized the need to raise public awareness to prevent drugs, eve-teasing, online gambling, terrorism, extortion, child marriage, and suicide, as well as the legal and peaceful resolution of local disputes and land-related conflicts.

The event was attended by public representatives, teachers from educational institutions, representatives of civil society, media workers, and a large number of people from different classes and professions.
