The annual art exhibition of the Department of Drawing and Painting, Dhaka University has started on Monday at Zainul Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest at a function at the faculty's Osman Jamal Auditorium.

Later, he distributed certificates and prizes among the award-winning artists.

The event was presided over by Prof Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Ali, Chairman of the Department of Drawing and Painting. Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Professor Dr. Md. Azharul Islam Sheikh and Engineer Moinul Abedin spoke as special guests. The convenor of the exhibition organizing committee, Rakin Nawar, delivered the welcome speech.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam said, many teachers of Fine Arts have won international awards. The Faculty of Fine Arts represents Bangladesh in preserving the country's heritage by organizing various events including anniversary celebrations. The Faculty of Fine Arts has played a unique role in various democratic movements of the country including the historic Language Movement, the Great Liberation War, the 90s Mass Uprising and the 24th Mass Uprising. He expressed the hope that this role of Fine Arts in any democratic movement will continue in the future.

Thirteen students were awarded in various categories at the annual art exhibition. The award-winning students are: MFA 2nd year student Jhalak Saha (Anwarul Haque Award, Best in All Mediums), BFA 4th year student Saikat Kumar Mistry (Rafikun Nabi Special Award, Best Award BFA), MFA 2nd year student Niha Rani Das (Best Medium Award, Experimental Work), BFA 4th year student Mosha. Momenun Nesa Surma (Best Medium Award, Oil), BFA 3rd year student Abhijit Chandra Dey (Best Medium Award, Watercolor), BFA 2nd year student Tasnim Tarek Turna (Best Medium Award, Pencil), MFA 2nd year student Md. Fahim Chowdhury (Best Award, Drawing), BFA 4th year student Al-Furkan Nayan (Kazi Abdul Baset Memorial Award), MFA 1st year student Nairita Pal Krishna (Delwar Hossain Memorial Award), MFA 2nd year student Mong Sonai Rakhine (Mahbubul Amin Memorial Award), MFA 2nd year student Debajyoti Barshan (Matlub Ali Memorial Award), BFA 1st year student Shaswat Majumdar Kavya (Shaheed Shahnewaz Memorial Award) and BFA 1st year student Priyas Das (Special Award, Pencil).
