The 4-day Shadow United Nations Conference, organized by Dhaka University Model United Nations Association, concluded on Saturday at Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

The theme of this year's conference was 'Consolidating Effective Multilateralism by Maintaining Unity in Diversity in a Changing Global Context.' Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, MP was the chief guest and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam was present as the special guest at the closing ceremony.

In addition, Carol Flore- Smereczniak , Interim Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Dhaka, and Mr. Alberto Giovanetti, Head of the Political, Economic and Communications Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Dhaka, were present.

ADB Country Director Qingfeng Zhang spoke as the guest of honour. Former President of Dhaka University Model United Nations Association Md. Rakib-uz-Zaman delivered the keynote speech. The vote of thanks was expressed by the Association's Secretary General Ahtab Jamil Mahin.

Minister for Finance and Planning Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, MP said, the government is working towards building a democratic, humane and inclusive economy. We want to build an economy that will primarily serve the people. At the same time, it will play a role as a responsible and cooperative partner in the global economic system. He called on the youth to get involved in this work and said that the real foundation of economic success lies in transparency.

The youth must come forward to build a changed new Bangladesh through honesty and transparency. He said, the current government is prioritizing the issue of identifying and recovering money laundered from Bangladesh abroad in the past years. For this purpose, the government is working jointly with countries like the UK, the US, the UAE and Singapore.

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam called upon the youth to lead in building the desired society and said, "Youth are not only for some expected future, they are capable of demonstrating sound judgment, sense of responsibility and strong conviction in the present.
