After 4 long months of breeding ban: Naogaon fishermen in joyous mood in three beels

After a four-month long breeding season ban and waiting, fishing has officially begun in 'Beel Manda', 'Beel Uttarail' and 'Beel Chakkaksa' in Manda Upazila of Naogaon.
The fish harvesting program was inaugurated with a grand ceremony at 10:30 am on Wednesday.
Local fishermen are overflowing with joy as the sound of nets is heard again in the reservoir after a long time.

This activity was organized by the Upazila Fisheries Officer's Office under the "Fishery Resources Management Project in the Jaboi Beel and the Beels of the Surrounding Areas" for the fiscal year 2026-2027 under the Department of Fisheries.
Manda UNO Mosa Atia Khatun attended the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the fishing activities herself.
Naogaon District Fisheries Officer Mr. Md. Ferdous Ali and Project Director of the Rajshahi Division of the Fisheries Department Mr. Md. Shamsul Karim were present as special guests at the event.
She said, "Hundreds of fishermen families in the areas surrounding these three beels earn their living by fishing. Considering their quality of life, about 2,100 kg of native and carp fish fry were released into the beels four months ago as per government instructions. At the same time, fishing in the beels was completely banned. Today, after four months, they were allowed to fish through a specific committee formed entirely of fishermen, so that they can harvest fish in a transparent manner and improve their quality of life."
Speakers at the event expressed hope that the proper implementation of this project will significantly increase the fishery resources in the Beel and restore the economic well-being of the benefiting fishermen.
Manda Upazila BNP Senior Vice President Alhaj Md. Mokhlesur Rahman Moke, Upazila Sramik Dal President Md. Mozammel Haque Mukul, along with local political leaders, public representatives and media workers were present at the event.
