8-month-old child dies after breast milk  gets stuck in windpipe in Jibannagar

Jibannagar (Chuadanga) Correspondent

An eight-month-old infant named Junaid died in Jibannagar, Chuadanga, after breast milk became lodged in his windpipe while he was asleep.

The incident occurred around 12:30 AM on Wednesday  in Andulbaria village of the upazila. Junaid was the son of Jihad, a resident of the same village.

According to the family, the infant's mother was breastfeeding him while he was asleep late Tuesday night. While nursing, the milk became lodged in his windpipe. He was quickly rushed to the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment, but the attending physician declared him dead after an examination.

Dr. SK Saimum Saikat, Medical Officer at Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex, stated, "We found the infant dead upon his arrival at the hospital. Preliminary assessments suggest he had passed away approximately one and a half to two hours before being brought in. The death was likely caused by respiratory failure resulting from the milk getting stuck in his windpipe."

Solaiman Sheikh, OC  of Jibannagar Police Station, said that legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway.
