
3 Including two children drown in Matamuhuri River in Chakaria

Three people, including two children, have died after drowning in the Matamuhuri River in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Chakaria Police Station OC Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed the deaths.On Wednesday at around 11:30 AM, two children went missing while bathing in the Matamuhuri River near the Farukia Madrasa point in South Kakara under Kakara Union.
The victims have been identified as Md. Masum (5), son of Md. Rashed, and his cousin Asma (6), daughter of expatriate Saber Ahmed—both residents of South Kakara.Local residents later recovered their bodies floating in the river.
Earlier on Tuesday around 3:30 PM, a young man was crossing the river on foot near the Lakkharchar-Jaliapara Ghat area when he was swept away by the current. Unable to swim to safety, he went missing in the river. Locals tried to rescue him using fishing nets but were unsuccessful.A diving team from the Chattogram Fire Service arrived and recovered the unidentified young man's body from the river on Wednesday morning.OC Md. Shafiqul Islam said the children’s families are making arrangements for their burial. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased young man. If his identity cannot be confirmed, burial will be arranged through the Cox’s Bazar branch of Anjuman Mofidul Islam.
