The medical services of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur have been held hostage by a syndicate.

 It has been alleged that the newly appointed Health and Family Planning Officer Shamsunnahar  has been blocked from joining the workplace by creating a mob by branding him corrupt as he is not liked by the members of the syndicate.

On Tuesday  at 1 pm, when the newly- appointed Mithapukur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer,  Shamsunnahar, came to join the workplace, a group of officers and employees led by Dr. M.A. Halim Lablu, formed a mob and barricaded her with 'fake' slogans.

On the other hand, hundreds of local people, including doctors and staff, led by the resident medical officer of the Upazila Health Complex, were seen raising various slogans welcoming the new Medical Officer. After about two hours of sloganeering, an army patrol team arrived and safely took Health and Family Planning Officer Shamsunnahar home from the hospital.

It has been alleged that Dr. M.A. Halim Lablu, the medical officer (disease control) of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex, has been working in the same workplace for six consecutive years in violation of the rules and has formed an active syndicate. Dr. M.A. Halim Lablu is unwrittenly controlling the entire hospital through this syndicate with the help of several officers and employees working in his area. The officer, who has set an example of honesty in his career, was alarmed after receiving the news of the posting of M.S. Shamsunnahar, raising imaginary allegations and started a movement on September 30 and stopped the medical activities of the hospital. Patients who came to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex for treatment have suffered greatly in this incident.

Dr. M.A. Halim Lablu, Medical Officer (Disease Control) of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex, said, "I am currently in charge of the hospital. She committed corruption in his previous workplace. If he joins, corruption and irregularities will be established in this hospital. Officers and employees at all levels are voluntarily protesting against her. The allegations made against me are completely false.”

In this regard, the newly posted Mithapukur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Shamsunnahar, said, "The allegations of corruption made against me are baseless. The former Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Rashebul Hasan, is systematically harassing me with his syndicate."

Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Shaheen Sultana said, "I am in a meeting in Dhaka. I have informed the higher authorities about the agitation at Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex."
